University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust consists of two hospitals Whitehaven and Carlisle. In order to improve efficiency and reduce costs the Trust tasked its medical records department with merging two hospital facilities into one new off site facility. Following procurement of a 30,000 sq ft building at Kingmoor Business Park the Trust needed to source appropriate shelving for over 10,000 linear metres of library storage capacity.
In order to arrive at an appropriate solution NCUHT advertised the requirement through OJEU. A tender competition was conducted which resulted in the selection of Rotadex’s Fineline medical records shelving solution. Fineline is made from British steel with a clean powder coated finish. The Fineline system has been designed as a safe and efficient means of storage and its smooth lines and robust architecture make it ideal for large scale library use. Rax 1 Workbenches were also selected to facilitate the reception, sorting and despatch of casenotes. Fineline is manufactured in Rotadex’s 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility which is equipped with the latest automatic steel conversion equipment. Fineline is made in Britain from British made steel and comes with a 15 year warranty.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust now has a centralised medical records facility complete with over 10,000 linear metres of storage capacity which will now allow the merger of two facilities into one purpose built medical records management service.

Supply, delivery and installation of a complete range of lockers for the new 3Ts development at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
The requirement
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust commenced an ambitious new development in 2022 to replace all the buildings on the front half of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Known as 3Ts (Trauma, Teaching and Tertiary care) existing buildings will be replaced by two brand new clinical buildings and a much-needed service yard. This will provide Brighton and Sussex with new state of the art cancer treatment facilities. As a result of the new building programme the Trust had a requirement to equip the new 3Ts buildings with an extensive range of staff and visitor lockers over a period of six months realising a requirement in excess of 9,000 locker spaces.
The solution
In order to arrive at an appropriate solution UHS NHS Foundation Trust conducted an open OJEU tender to procure the appropriate locker solutions. A tender competition was conducted which resulted in the selection of the Rotadex range of locker solutions. Rotadex lockers were selected on the basis of their quality, longevity, environmental performance and the provision of best value for money. Rotadex lockers are manufactured in Rotadex’s 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility from British made steel and come with a 15-year warranty.
The solution required a site survey of all the rooms to be fitted out with the production of CAD layouts for each room to demonstrate the capacity requirements could be met. Following sign off of the CAD layouts for each room/area Rotadex manufactured, delivered and installed over 9,000 lockers spaces over a 6 month period. Since then there have been ongoing supplies for new departments/areas as requirements have changed and evolved. These have included supplies for the new A&E department soon to be built.
3T’s Project Manager Gary Speirs commented, “Rotadex manufactured, delivered and installed a range of staff and visitor lockers for the new 3Ts development at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. Delivery was on time and installation swift. The team were a pleasure to work with. We were happy with the quality and service received and would not hesitate to recommend Rotadex.”
The result
The Royal Sussex County Hospital has now equipped its new 3Ts development with in excess of 9,000 locker spaces from a range of hard wearing and environmentally friendly staff lockers
